Al Khalil College – Glasgow

Al Khalil College is an independent Islamic secondary school, based in Glasgow and established in 2016 by Sheikh Abdul Ghafoor, Imam of Glasgow Central Mosque. The school caters to both boys & girls from a wide range of backgrounds including single parent families and has a mission to develop individuals with a sound Islamic identity and a strong focus on academia.
The newly established school charges very modest fees of £2520 in S1 up to £3360 in S6 which covers half of its operating costs. The remainder is covered through generous donations in order to make the school accessible to as large a number of students as possible. It operates from the historic Abbotsford Public School building in Gorbals and the building now requires investment to upgrade and modernise its facilities to enable the team of highly qualified and fully registered teachers to assist students in achieving their maximum potential.
The school delivers the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence offering key qualifications across secular subjects and students have gone on to study a variety of subjects in university including pharmacy, optometry, software engineering and languages.
The school is registered on the public register of independent schools in Scotland (https://education.gov.scot/) and also with UCAS (https://www.ucas.com/) and is also an approved SQA examination centre. More information about the school is readily available on its website: www.alkhalilcollege.com.
Along with the traditional subjects, students at Al Khalil College are fortunate to have the opportunity to study some of the sacred Islamic Sciences such as Tajweed, Seerah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (May the peace and blessings of Allah ta’ala be upon him), Qur’an and Hadith.
The school has an annual expenditure of £260,000 and the total incoming annual fees is £120,000.
This is a deficit of £140,000 per annum in the current academic year.
The breakdown of costs are as such:
Teaching staff - £175k per annum
Local rates - £75k per annum
(the Scottish Government recently passed legislation to exclude independent schools from receiving charity reliefs for local rates)
Resources - £10k per annum
In addition to the ongoing costs, the school also has a number of infrastructure upgrades required to enable it to scale and provide teaching to more Muslims across Glasgow. The school, which is still in its infancy and faced major challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, has run successfully since 2016 through the generous donations of both individuals and businesses in Glasgow and is now looking for support from the iCare community and the people of UK to take the school to the next stage in its development, improve its infrastructure and continue to provide a high standard of education.
Why spend on education?
Of the many avenues of Sadaqah, education is especially worthwhile and important for the preservation and promotion of beneficial knowledge for future generations and continues to be a source of reward for the entire lifetime of each student and that of anyone that they pass it on to. Educational projects produce individuals with noble character and sound knowledge who can serve the community as valuable members of society and well-rounded citizens.
When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things:
Their Sadaqah Jariyah; knowledge from which benefit is taken,
or pious children who pray for them. [Muslim]
Just as Sadaqah Jaariya is a source of continuous reward for both the living and the dead, so too is contributing to projects which disseminate beneficial knowledge.
Help Al Khalil College serve the community, deliver future leaders and good Muslims.
Please donate generously and your reward from Allah (SWT) will be continuous (Both in this life and in the Hereafter) in sha Allah
